you know when you have a taste for something but you can't figure out what it is?
damn irritating.
what you crave will hit the spot exactly, making you feel ever so refreshed/quenched/satiated that your tastebuds won't dare ask for anything for a really long time. if only you could figure out what it is.
this evening i was trying to get through my shift, but i couldn't concentrate on anything because a lineup of snackfoods were parading through my mind, enticing me, but not well enough that i'd want to eat any.
at first i thought i wanted something cold. i decided a strawberry good humor bar (you know the ones with the pseudo-cake coating -- and not the bunny brand, it has to be good humor) would do the trick. i always ogle them in the vending machine but have never partaken. yeah, so i get there and it's the one time they're sold out.
then i was in the mood for something fake-fruity and my water just wasn't cutting it. and i wanted something carbonated. like orange soda. yeah! orange soda would totally hit the spot. i went to three vending machines on different floors, and wouldn't you know, none of them had it.
the quest was starting to cut into valuable work time, so i trudged back to the old desk with an apple juice and a snickers bar. don't worry; i didn't have them at the same time -- that'd be kind of gross.
it just didn't cut it.
i don't even want to pretend to imagine what it must be like for pregnant women.
hey check ur email...
ReplyDeletebut i'll be back tom morning to read the post.
Wait a minute. Snickers and apple juice is gross? I'd argue that pizza and milk is a much more gross combination! Furthermore, I'd expect that someone who drinks milk with pizza wouldn't find many food combinations gross at all.
ReplyDeleteI learn a new little piece of cadiz with every post.
i hate going to lunch and not having any particular craving for anything. that way you definately can't satisfy.
ReplyDeleteArgh. Yes. p.m.s cravings. Chocolate. Then salted peanuts. Then something milky and sweet. Then...get this...green mango with salt and pepper.
ReplyDeleteso i have to say, that when i was little, the community pool used to sell snickers, but they'd keep them in the freezer. a frozen snickers bar is amazing. and it won't melt on you in the summer. hells yeah!
ReplyDeleteAren't 'up late' and 'pregnant' synonymous as far as cravings are concerned? I eat the weirdest stuff late at night.
ReplyDeleteYeah Jas- Frozen Snickers! That's the only way to eat them!
ReplyDeleteCadiz, I feel your pain. It never fails that when you actually want something from a vending machine it will be sold out...
I've done the vending machine chase all over campus, but it's usually in search of a specific kind of chip--sometimes SunChips, sometimes a certain kind of Dorito . . . rarely is it for a sugar fix, not that Idon't patronize vending machines for my sugar fixes, but rather it's because I'm generally less particular when it comes to the sugar fix.
ReplyDeleteyou know, omar, somehow i just knew you were going to bring up the pizza/milk. the cold dairyness of milk compliments the cheese of pizza and cuts the burn of the hot peppers i pour all over it. the fizziness of pop just becomes an aggravation.
ReplyDeletemmmm doritos. really fresh doritos are so freaking good. dammit. it's like i can't log on with out coming away hungry anymore.
i've heard that frozen candybars are the way to go, but isn't it tough to bite into? i don't want to break a tooth over a snack.
you know what's really good? the copychief found twix topping that hardens after you pour it onto ice cream. it's like having a dipped cone from dairy queen that tastes like twix. YUM!
Hmmm… can’t say that I relate in as much as I rarely crave anything. I get urges every now and again, but I can honestly say that the only thing I’ve ever truly craved is cinnamon graham crackers. I can’t explain it. But if I can’t have them, you might as well shoot me in the head because I will be nothing short of unreasonable.
ReplyDeleteYour argument for milk with pizza was not convincing.
ReplyDeleteSee the new poll on my site. We'll let the public decide, cadiz.
frozen twix bars are byfar the best! Also if you are into a healthier snack, try frozen yogurt with granola, and raisens, the raisens get cold and hard and are quite delicious.
ReplyDeletehey man, i was just giving you a peek into my very complex mind.
ReplyDeletehowever, i'm pretty confident that the poll results -- impeccable integrity that they have -- will favor my taste. you will see.
this should be interesting.
in the building i work at in loyola, i left a nice little note for "the snack dude" as we like to call him making sure he stocked up all the goodies we wanted from the vending machine. although him and "the drink dude" don't get along very well, i admire "the snack dude's" willingness to listen to his customers and target their specific food vices. (squinting eyes) Until another day, "drink dude".
ReplyDeleteyou know, i once tried to bribe the office vending machine guy into filling an extra slot with twix so it wouldn't run out so fast. he couldn't do it, but he gave me a free one for my effort.
ReplyDeletethose guys are cool.
