if i were packing, i'd be rich

i am a frequent flyer at the cafeteria on the first floor of my office building.

so frequent, in fact, that i'm on a first-name basis with the staff down there, and if i don't visit at least once a day, Michael will ask me where i've been hiding. they have pretty healthy stuff, too like hummus and pita or a wonton salad that has tangerines and chicken. and fancy health juice.

but today i came to realize just how expensive it is when i brought a ham sandwich on a croissant, a yoplait yogurt and a mega berry juice. more than $11. dude, i could have gotten SO much more of a better meal for that, were i not too lazy to actually leave the building.

damn, convenience is pricey. i need to start bringing my lunch.

  1. Convenience is pricey. That could be a motto for the world we live in...

  2. It sure is pricey. You'd be surprised at how much you save taking your own lunch. And the same things the cafeteria serves too.

  3. As a "bring my lunch to work convert" you'll be amazed at how much money you save. Good luck, chica! It's hard to get started, but it's well worth the extra moolah in the bank!

  5. i think i'd have been more satisfied had it been a good lunch. sadly, i enjoyed my peanut butter and jelly feast just as much today and it didn't cost me anything extra.

oh, and piu, the uk is on my list. i'll have made sure to save up enough beforehand, though.

  7. I think there’s a serious element of perspective that we aren’t addressing here. In order to make my own lunch, I’m going to have to get up earlier in order to prepare it. How much is that time worth? $5? $10? $1,000,000,000,000,000? And don’t even start with that nonsense of making a lunch the night before because you clearly don’t understand just how procrastinatory (is that even a word? I say it is.) I can be. Not to mention the fickle nature with which my appetite operates. I might pack a ham sandwich in the morning, but come lunch time, I might REQUIRE a slice of pizza. There are just too many variables, and the cost of my time and ultimately my happiness is potentially more than $5-$15 a day… at least that’s how I feel about it. I have a doctor’s certificate that proves I’m legally insane for anyone that wants to verify the authenticity of my mental state…

  9. Healthy Choice Pizzas are inexpensive, healthy, and delicious. They take about 3 minutes in the microwave and are very filling.

I also suggest the Pasta Roni section of the supermarket. One box is enough for dinner and lunch the next day. Only $1.12 for each box and the Pasta Primavera is da bomb, yo.

  12. Yeah, if he doesn't have enough gold teeth, then he's not worth your time.

I too need to start bringing my lunch. But working at a college, there are just so many tasty choices that are all so close...
