last meal

they executed a 76-year-old man today in california. he was blind, diabetic and in a wheelchair. for his last meal, the guy ordered fried chicken, buffalo steak, whole milk, ice cream and sugar-free pecan pie.

am i the only one who's wondering why, if you're on your way to your death, you wouldn't just splurge on a sugary pie?

  1. He'd already done the ice cream. He didn't want to go all out.

  2. i don't get it why on earth they still wanna execute a 76 yr. old man who's already blind, diabetic and in a wheelchair? like he'll do more harm... if he did the crime almost 20 years ago, why didn't they execute him back then when he was still capable of doing lot of things?

  4. They should've given him ice-cream loaded with sugar.

Age doesn't stop people from being cruel. A 70-something man recently murdered his wife here.

  5. I'm wondering the why, also, but maybe it's so ingrained . . .

I'm with 'ka. If you're going to kill a killer, why spend taxpayer dollars supporting him in relative luxury and providing him with buffalo steaks for 20 years, and then kill him at age 76? Most of his friends were dead already because they didn't have access to the top of the line health care afforded our prison inmates.
Why do taxpayer dollars get wasted coddling a person on death row? In fact, why is there death row at all? I know, I know, you don't want to execute a possibly innocent person - but that is a question about capital punishment. If you're going to do it, then just do it! (Nike swoosh)

  7. Aww, that makes me sad. This poor old guy who committed a crime years ago is on his deathbed and he still obeys his doctors orders. The poor thing.

  8. I'm not even going to go down "is capital punishment justifiable" route.

some sugar free habits never die I guess. Its a wonder people have sugar free habits in the first place.

thought I'd drop by and tell you that while I was writing up my comments recognition post, your comment on my latest post (which is the latest comment to date) made it to number 500 in the comment count. thanks for stopping by. :-)

  10. good work, X. it's jack. i love his mellow vibe.

i think he had ordered the murders he was executed from jail in the first place. maybe he developed a taste for sugar free? i remembered once i was wary of a sugarfree apple pie at Cracker Barrel, but it was surprisingly delicious.

ooh, syar, i feel so special! i love the new look, btw.

  11. i agree with syar. maybe the old habits die with you when you're a diabetic.

interesting story. i'm still puzzled as to why cali has the death penalty. maybe cuz their governor is "The Terminator".

  13. I guess its the same question as "why do they sterilise the needle when giving the lethal injection?"

I'm sure there're reasons, but to me... it don't make sense...

    :)
