the cure is that ratty old couch

i woke up this morning with a scratchy throat. i watched Family Ties, Who's the Boss and The Facts of Life, ate, got ready and came to work. during my shift, my nose began to run. i took a break from the dungeon to go to the drugstore and buy NyQuil and ramen noodles. currently, i'm sitting in the dungeon and slowly eviscerating a box of Kleenex as well as the skin of my nose, waiting for reports. i'm not looking forward to standing outside and waiting for a cab in the middle of the night.

being sick is so much worse when you know you're not going home.

  1. Take some Airborne. It's like magic (sometimes).

Oh, and happy belated 18,000th hit! I saw it when it was at like 18,013, but I forgot to mention it at the time.

  2. I could be a real cynical dick, and mention that being sick on Thanksgiving sucks... But that would be really mean of me and so I won't say anything. :-)

Zicam is my cold remedy of choice. It's expensive, but most of the time you are over that shit in 2 days, and for that I am willing to pay the $18.

  4. Diagnosis: homesick.

The remedy is the same as for the infamous Common Cold: soup (or ramen noodles) plus symptom suppressors plus time.

Hang in there! Hope you get some relief soon.

  5. 1000 mg doses of vitamin C every 4 hours. Works every time.

Cab? Has parking gotten that bad?

  7. I've never really been sick for more than a day or two, so I don't have any magical cures for you. But last night I had a dream about you-- You were throwing a party in that high-rise apartment. But not just any party... A blog party! There were computers everywhere, and bloggers from around the world were there, blogging and partying! Corny, huh? Omar didn't get to party though, he was the bouncer.

  8. Total empathy. I'm sitting here at work with a box of Sudafed and a box of Puffs Plus. Did you know that Puffs Plus can actually reduce the redness of a nose? Worth every penny.

  9. Oh no, oh no!

Can you get sick leave? Maybe you can persuade your boss that if you don't get sick leave, all the staff will catch the cold and can't function properly and...

Eat lots of veggies and soup and fruits.

  10. Huh. I'm even anti social in other people's dreams. Hopefully, at least I got a chance to rough up some non-blogger who was trying to get in.

  11. thanks for all the suggestions, guys! i have currently taken several airborne over the last few days (seems to be staving off the worst of it), got some Puffs Plus (MUCH nicer on the nose, you're right.), i haven't tried Zicam, but i'm chugging the NyQuil because i took a sick day from work (good point; no need to spread it around). and i've got cough drops with vitamin c in them and have been eating soup and drinking ginger tea. hopefully i'll kick this sucker sooner rather than later.

parking is HORRID near the building. but it's fairly close to my office, so i can walk or take a relatively cheap taxi.

and oh my goodness, viking! i think a blogger party is an awesome idea! unfortunately, the place i'm staying is pretty small, so it'd have to be after i get my own digs and have more room. you're all invited! and omar, i promise you don't have to be the muscle-- unless you want to-- and no one will force you to socialize, either.

i sure do hope my party was jumpin, though.

  12. Oh, it was jumpin alright. Maybe too much. I won't mention any names, but some people were not content to keep their clothes on...

And Omar, if it's any consolation, you were one hell of a bouncer.
