Why is it that people feel the need to push buttons that are already lit? Was my pressing the "up" arrow obviously not good enough to actually summon the elevator? If I'm already going to floor 17, will it not actually stop there unless you ALSO hit the button? Do you arrive at or in the elevator anticipating the joy of touching that button, but find that since I've already hit it your day has no meaning, so you go ahead and redundantly press it again?
WHY IS MY BUTTON-PUSHING NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU?!?
lol i agree. maybe it makes them think the elevator arrives faster.
ReplyDeleteI always feel this way about button pushers also!
ReplyDeleteThen again, I've assumed on occasion that someone among the throng waiting in the elevator lobby has pressed the button, and waited and waited, and then it turns out that they were all just chatting or waiting for someone and no one really wanted the elevator. And I just stood there waiting.
But if I can see the light already lit up, then no, I won't press it again. But Jinius is probably right - it's like people who look down the track to see if the train is coming.
Maybe you should ask.
ReplyDeleteCadiz12 - Why?! Why did you push that button when it's obviously already been pressed?
(ideal answer)
Duh! It's an elevator not an elephant; maybe it forgets. Also it makes it go faster.
(likely answer)
What?
you're my TWIN!
ReplyDeleteMaybe reading this will make you feel better:

You know, that irritates me too! It's like they think you're so stupid that you hadn't thought of pushing the button and were just standing there for fun.
ReplyDeletepeople just want to feel like they can control a situation. and feel more useful.
ReplyDeletecus obviously the more you push it the faster it comes. the weight of your push is important too. and also your intent while you are pushing makes a big difference.
I hate the guy/gal that pushes the "door close" button a thousand times in the hope that the door will close a tenth of a second sooner...
ReplyDeleteYeah, fucktard, keep hitting it.
Ugh! One of my pet peeves!
