Both Stephanie and Jam tagged me to reveal eight random things about myself. So to be fair, I did 16. And now I must rest. But before I do, I tag Jon because he hasn't posted in a very long time. (I scoff at those of you who point out that he asked to be interviewed and hasn't done that yet either.) C'mon, Jon, we're counting on you. No pressure.
1) I will do whatever I can to avoid leaving the house on my day off.
2) I still haven't put together the photo album from my semester abroad EIGHT years ago.
3) I take guilty pleasure in a nap during an afternoon when the weather is sunny and gorgeous. It's like I'm mocking the opportunity to do something productive outside, so somehow the sleep is sweeter.
4) Oatmeal raisin is my favorite, but I am an equal-opportunity cookie consumer.
5) I hate all the crap I have to go through to get to the ocean, but once I'm in it, you're going to have a hard time getting me out-- unless a toothy water creature tastes my foot like that one time at Daytona Beach. In those cases, I can run through water surprisingly fast.
6) I attract mosquitoes. Quite well. Without even trying.
7) I can stay up all night if I'm procrastinating, but if I'm talking on the phone I can easily slip into a coma mid-sentence.
8) I find comfort in oldschool musicals.
9) When I was in fifth grade, I played Molly in the high school production of "Annie." I remember my solos and some of my lines, I still have my tap shoes, and I still keep jewelry in a musicbox that plays "Tomorrow," which I got as a gift on opening night.
10) The quality of my dancing is inversely proportional to the number of people in the room. It's too bad, really, because some of my cleaning-the-house moves are worthy of a Soul Train spotlight.
11) I've already made a mental list of home improvement projects for my house--one that i'm at least a decade away from even seeing.
12) There were entire weekends during college in which I did not see the sun.
13) I can't make rice. Please don't tell anybody.
14) I like my eggs runny and my toast crunchy.
15) I've never seen a James Bond movie. I enjoy hearing people's reaction to that statement so much that I've purposely avoided putting one on my Netflix queue so I can keep saying it.
16) I have 317 movies on said Netflix queue.
First!
ReplyDelete317? Is that watched-movies? Pending? Combo? Because that's not an insignificant number.
Also the randomness i.e. topical dispersion of your sixteen items? Exemplary.
I've never seen a Tom Cruise movie for the exact same reason. I enjoy the shock and awe it inspires in people, especially since I love movies so much and am known to have seen so many.
ReplyDeleteAnd, hello? You can't make rice? Ah-reh, beta! We may have to take away your South Asian Membership card. :)
I don't know that I've seen 317 movies ever. I had netflix for around 3 months, and I think I put no more than 20 items in my queue. 5 or so of those were for the wife.
ReplyDeleteEw, runny eggs.
please watch james bond movie NOW! but sean connery ones- the rest are crap
ReplyDeletethe mosquitoes? do you use lotion that smells?
ReplyDeletei think that makes it worse...
I feel like you're trying to tell me something... I don't know what it is exactly, but I promise not to sleep more than 10 hours a night until I figure it out!
ReplyDeletewow jam, compiling the netflix stats to tell you, i realize that those deserve their own post. but yes, the 317 number is the number of movies i have requested to be sent to my house in little red envelopes. i should be good for quite some time.
ReplyDeleteno tom cruise movies? librarian girl, i'm impressed. i just recently caught Cocktail on cable and had to turn it off because it was too uncomfortable to watch the steamy waterfall scenes with my mother. but i saw enough of it to cross it off the list.
is the fact that i can make really good chapatis from scratch cancel the fact that my rice is always over/undercooked? if i get a rice cooker, can i keep my membership card or is that cheating? please don't tell the auntie patrol.
omar, sometimes i think you'd disapprove of every food i like. first the milk w/ pizza, now eggs...
i've heard that about mr. connery, ale. and i did really like him in finding forrester. especially the part about "you're the man now, dawg."
no jazz, it's my natural scent/blood that keeps them coming year after year. when i was young and trying to sleep in india one time, i atuck my arm outside the mosquito net and put it against a cool wall. from my shoulder to the tips of my fingers was one ginormous, bumpy bloodbath. i still shudder thinking about how much it itched.
just do your best, jon.
I used to be afraid of cooking rice and now I think I've finally gotten the hang of it! Just practice, practice, practice. :)
ReplyDeleteOk, you are SO off the hook because of the chapatis. I can't roll a round chapati to save my life. Then they don't cook evenly because the thickness is all jacked up. Nordic Boy can make them though, so my household remains chapati-friendly.
ReplyDeleteYour membership card remains in tact!
I just found you through Librarian Girl's blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who has never seen a James Bond movie. Honestly, for a long time I just never had the desire. Then, like you, the joy I got from people's reactions made me not want to see one even more.
woohoo! i get to keep my s.a. card and i discover i'm in a james-bond film aversion club? this is a great day to be a guild member! thanks for visiting, sauntering soul.
ReplyDeletei couldn't rest until i mastered the chapati because i didn't think they made boys who could do it. you're very lucky to have found Nordic Boy.
While reading the line about eggs, I caught a glimpse of the Bond comment, and had already blurted out "What the fuck," before I could even read the rest of it.
ReplyDeleteNo, not all foods, cadiz. Just the gross ones.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there were 317 movies...
ReplyDeleteWhy can't I comment? bleah. Must be some anti-James Bond blogging thing. I like James Bond movies, great escape. I even read the Bond illustrated in our newspaper, hehe.
ReplyDeleteI love runny eggs on crunchy toast. And I only know how to make rice because my dad decided that was the one survival skill he'd teach me. So I can't find places without a map or make small talk but give me some rice and I'll make you a meal! Sort of.
ReplyDeleteJames Bond is ok. I really need to watch Casablanca and Godfather and all that though. There's so much I haven't watched that I could go around shocking separate groups of fanboys. Scarface, Rocky, Indiana Jones...
The mosquitos love me as well. Seriously, they would pass up millions of people just to use me as their meal. Blech!
ReplyDeleteI only liked Sean Connery as James Bond. The others are crap, so you're not missing out on too much.
Mosquitos are like that with me, too. I tell my friends that this means they should always invite me on picnics; I provide protection for the rest of the group.
ReplyDeleteI once asked my doctor if there really is such a thing as sweet blood. He said yes; something about different proteins from the rest of society. I'm still not sure if he was joking or not.
lol-ed at the rice comment. i think east and south asians have the added pressure of living up to their ethnic culinary traditions. but the key to good rice? always keep stove on lowest heat possible and use more water than u think u need. that crap evaporates fast!
ReplyDeleteoh and you can spell it bulgoki or bulkoki. but it's pronounced bool-goh-ghee. hope that helps. there's a reason im not a translator.
