feeling like a million minutes

getting up early is a little bit like winning the lottery: you're wide awake, showered, dressed and ready to rock hours before your usual. you're walking on sunshine. you have ALL this time ahead of you to accomplish everything you've let lag for the last several days. because you're so rich, of course you can spare some time to sit through recorded episodes of America's Next Top Model, the news, Dancing With the Stars AND the finale episode! (i'm very pleased with the result, by the way).

but unfortunately just like lottery winnings, if not invested wisely the treasure trove of time slips out from under that sheen of hope and confidence and evaporates. that's the problem with becoming cocky.

so yes, i may have gotten up at 6 a.m. this morning. but now, six hours later, i have nothing to show for it but a full stomach, a less-empty inbox and fewer items left to watch on the DVR.

so much for all the work i was going to get done. sigh. might as well make the most of the time i've got left.

  1. I'm disappointed in America. They gave the best dancer award to the 3rd (possibly even 4th) best dancer.

Anyway, with regard to time management, I always feel that way about my vacations. I've been trying not to plan to do things at all on my vacations, because I was tired of feeling pressure during times when I'm supposed to be relaxing.

I should also note that my attempts at doing this have been unsuccessful, to this point.

  2. Isn't it strange how time flips around, or you have more or less when you have time off? I guess we all kind of need a schedule to follow.

  3. Doesn't it suck when you have all this stuff planned and it doesn't seem to work out that way? That seems to be the story of my life!

  4. There's a saying about time, something like it's the one thing we can spend but never earn. Or replace. Or something.

And yet becoming a slave to a highly regimented day-timer seems wrong, too...

  5. Did the winner of Dancing With the Stars work for the network it is broadcast on? Apparently across all the countries that the show airs on, the celebrity that wins works for the network...

But I'm with you on the time thing. I don't know how many times I've revelled in my time, only to find that I'm still far, far behind.

  6. and then once the 6 hours are over, it'll feel like you've been awake all day and that its already time to turn in cause you're sluggish and then you spend the rest of the day repeating the 6 wasted hours until its time to climb back into bed.

    no?

    then its just me then.

  7. all day i felt like it was later than it was. like 3 pm? to me it felt like 9. usually i would have probably crashed, but i was very busy and didn't have time to think about it. sigh. that's what happens when you put everything off by being lazy; you have to stay up all night to get it done at the last minute. story of my life.

    Re: dancing with the stars--

i'm with America for choosing the best dancer within the constraints of the competition. who knows, emmitt could have been some slick papa on the dance floor back in the day, but he didn't rely on skills he obviously got before the competition, i.e. breakdancing and tapdancing. he's the real deal. unless you count the Running Man, which i'm sorry, but anyone with rhythm can learn in ten minutes.

as someone who has brandished MANY a black-and-blue or floorburn attempting to learn some of the stuff breakdancers do, including backspins (on which i never manage more than 1 1/2 revolutions, btw) i will say that is not a skill one picks up in a week ON TOP of learning complex choreography.

don't get me wrong, how could i ever hate on those dimples? maybe emmitt wasn't THE BEST, but i think my earlier point makes it clear that the judges looked the other way on joey/mario because of the sheer entertainment factor. everyone wants to watch talent. but emmitt got the popular vote (final judges' tally was equal). the man is an MVP. and a champion. however, getting out on the field with a microphone during a cardinals/cowboys game probably didn't hurt his fan base, either.
