she's crafty

"you know, i saw a button near the coat rack this afternoon and picked it up, thinking it's probably one of mine."

"who's is it?"

"sure enough, it's off the shirt i'm wearing."

"ah, well you going to take it home and fix it?"

"yeah, i'll probably have to do it myself."

"you know, every time i try to sew on a button, it seems to only last for only one buttoning."

"yeah, it never works right. i lost one off my coat last week..."

"i hate to interrupt you, gentlemen, but it might be sturdier if you go diagonal with those things."

"like when you're unscrewing the lugnuts on a wheel?"

"uh... yeah. sort of. actually, yeah! same sort of thing-- to make sure it doesn't fall off on you."

"so then, it's cool if i just bring it in for you to take care of, cadiz?"

It was a trap! OH NO! Tell them to learn how to do it themselves. :)

haha this reminds me of an article plum sykes* wrote for Vogue- about the buttons falling of coats... apparently is a huge problem of international proportions, not even the expensive french coates escape such fate!

*plum sykes- bergdorf blonds! duh!

I have that same problem. I have a pair of pants that keeps losing the button. Finally I just gave up and started wearing a belt.

Just tell them that sure, you'd be glad to do it, but that you charge a minimum fee of $15 for all alterations.

There are no sewing skills in my household, so the wife and I are going to have to practice this routine for when we visit my mom.

I hate buttons. and nobody I know can sew.

if I get so desperate I have to mail my buttonless apparel to you to be fixed, I'll remember to add in a few chocolate chip cookies. nut, or no nut?

Dude! A button is like the easiest thing in the world to sew. The holes are RIGHT THERE, you can't miss. Am I being a sew-snob about this? Is that even possible?

cadiz12 said...

i think it's easy to be a sew snob because there are so many people out there who have no idea just how easy it is. but then there are some people, like the gentlemen in question, who are geniuses things that i find to be near impossible, who can't figure out how to secure a button.

too bad mending doesn't pay six figures, cuz i'd be all over it.
