it's catching

so H has been infected with American Idol fever. which is fine, but he's doing his best to pull me onto the bandwagon, too, baiting me with facts such as the contestant who is not only one of my peeps (despite his scary hair) BUT HE ALSO sings Stevie Wonder-- two facts H knows very well will suck me in like a tractor beam. there's also a contestant who is from my hometown.

sorry, pal. ain't gonna happen. i've held out all these years and i'm going to continue staying strong. there are only so many hours in a day, and now that America's Next Top Model is on again, i need to prioritize. a lot of once-good, now-disappointing shows aren't safe, either. i'm talking to you, Lost. there are plenty of so-bad-they're-good indian soap operas vying to pick up your slack. and at the very least i can claim educational value on those, because everybody knows you can't say you've fully learned a language until you can call out your daughter-in-law as a backstabbing beeyatch.

Prior to this season, the only two episodes of American Idol I had seen were the final episodes of season 1 and 2. I've tried to get into it this season, but it's too much for me. If it was only on once per week, I'd give it a try. But I'm just not interested enough to watch it three nights in a row.

Funny you should bring this up... turns out I have the answer to all the nay sayers posted over at my blog... sorry to put a teaser for my blog in the comments. Usually I don't stoop so low, but this is just an amazing coincidence.

As to Jasmine's comment, he's not that bad, he just keeps choosing songs that are bad for him. I think he can actually sing, unlike Antonella, who has been nothing short of horrific.

There's no arguing the time commitment though, it's pretty demanding.

Give in, girl, give in. Some sing sob bad it's worth watching :-D

As for those Indian soaps, I've never seen anything so...so...I can't find the word. The writers lose the plot, people die and come back alive, characters act out of character...and I have to watch.

I don't think I ever realized American Idol demanded three nights a week of adulation. I always thought that if I ever had the time, I'd watch it. Now, I'm not so sure.

i heart ai, but they are all more lame than usual this year. maybe it's just that last year had so many great voices that they can't compete... if you dvr the episodes, you can fast forward through all the stupid crap that they show (ie ryan seacrest) and just watch the singing, so it's not such a time-waster.

that's what i do. i live in a seacrest-free zone

I refuse to watch American Idol....except for the tryouts. Now that is entertaining. :)

Even the auditions aren't doing it for me anymore. Its the new Survivor. I mean, who still watches Survivor??

Lost got too hard for me to follow too, but come Season 3, I'll warily step back onto the bandwagon. Are you talking about ANTM Cycle 8? Cause I only got Cycle 7 here. Don't tell me who wins!

i used to watch ANTM but tyra got too annoying for me. and everyone on idol sounds the same. like they should be working on a cruise ship. and lost is losing its edge. hmmm maybe tv is just starting to be boring.

i was one of the first people i know to get on the Lost bandwagon, and now i'm just a little ashamed to have been such a cheerleader for a show that has been highly disappointing in season 3 (sorry, syar). however, i am not one to give up on things too easily, so i'll stick it out and see if they redeem themselves.

i'm hearing that my peep on a.i. isn't that good from several people. i have yet to see him perform, and i can't emphasize how much i don't like his hair, but the good thing is that he's young; he'll grow out of it. however, if he continues to stay on, i'll have to tivo it just to see what it is that everyone is rallying around. and i'd definitely want to do it in an seacrest-free zone.

yes, the indian soaps. so bad. SOO BAD. but i think the death-defying, unexplained split-personality disorders are what keep me coming back. it's only when the protagonists are simpering idiots who can't see they're getting played by the very husbands they'd give their lives for-- THAT'S what makes me want to switch the channel (think annoying in a very Meredith Grey kind of way). anytime you want to see some, come over to my parents' house: it's the only form of prime time television allowed over there anymore.

i got sucked into top model via a Vh1 marathon. I won't tell you the winner was of cycle 7, but i can say it was a lot more interesting than cycle 8. as an aside, i found out that melrose's last name is Bickerstaff. and you KNOW it's going to be good tv when somebody has the same last name as screech's nerdy girlfriend from saved by the bell. i tivo ANTM because i don't like listening to tyra pontificate, either. it's just one of those shows that sucks you into the vortex.

Idol is only fun to watch during the intro stages... once they actually get down to the talented people, I quickly lose interest.
