side effects may include tone deafness

it has become abundantly clear that in the months since i have traded commuting 2 hours each way alone in my car for 2 hours each way surrounded by others on the train, the quality of my singing voice has deteriorated significantly. these days i am only able to carry a tune if i am singing along with the radio or if i have put it into a backpack.

i cannot describe just how much that disturbs me.

You should practice in the shower?

I can't carry a tune at all, but that doesn't stop me. Disturbing to some... myself definitely not included. And even tone deaf, you must be better than Sanjaya.

Disclaimer: I don't actually watch the show beyond the rounds with horrible people... I'm simply reciting commands I heard on the radio. Sanjaya is the awful guy that is so popular he persists, right? If not, you still get the point.

I agree, you should practice in the shower! I bet you'll find your beautiful voice again. :)

I can't sing a note to save my life :) I don't even sing when I'm alone cause I can't stand it!

I don't think I agree with your cause-and-effect evaluation. I've been riding trains for years, and I don't think my singing has deteriorated. But then, I never used to commute in a car, so it could be the change.

Still, I'll third the motion: practice in the shower. Or, sing on the train. Everyone else does.

I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't sing in the car. I'd probably be a lot less annoying though...

This reminds me of Jamaica...women sing out loud while doing their laundry and other chores, men sing while walking on the streets. They just sing. I've never experienced that elsewhere.
