the problem with parking -- vol. 2

the problem with parking is that meter-people do not allow much of a grace period for getting caught up in covertly reading funny blogs at work while waiting for reports. constantly minimizing and adjusting windows to hide profile pictures does not lend itself to checking the time, despite its constant presence at the corner of the screen.

unfortunately, when you do see the time and realize your meter was up 20 minutes ago, it takes another 6 minutes to sprint across the office, down the stairs, through the parking lot, under the bridge, across the traffic and down the street. and when you get there, thankful that you haven't broken a heel or an ankle, it's inevitable that there's an orange-and-white welcome note affixed to the windshield.

it's just a little $30 reminder: 'watch the damn clock, moron.'

This reminds me of R. Kelly, coming out with "Trapped in the Closet" I and II at the same time.

Anyway, I agree whole heartedly with vol. 1 (so I'm not sure why I'm leaving this comment on vol. 2, but I'll continue nonetheless). It happens to me all the time at work, I have been more conscious of parking in shade now that I have a car seat in there. And I get rewarded by getting crap all over my car.

There is no shade at the train station. I find that cruel. Yet, as I am the only person who will suffer the burns, I have little to ponder.

Ha, ha. Blogs have ruined all our lives at some point. Meter Maids (I love that sexist title so I refuse to abandon it - was metering the spinster career of the 1950s or something??) should be more considerate. I suppose you could try to argue it, but I've heard judges rarely fall to the "Blog defense" - at least, that's what Omar's lawyer keeps telling me.

R. Kelly. dude, he should have been found and shot in at least one of those. one of my friends is a reporter for newsradio and she said one time she went to a hs on the southside and all the little girls were like, 'eiw, he's always hangin around here trying to talk to us. i wish he'd just get away.'

i probably could have posted about 15 volumes about parking, but i had to leave for work.

yes, blogs have taken a chunk out of daily activities. a very addictive, make-you-late, keep-you-up chunk. but don't worry, after the bar, jazz can set a precedent for the blog defense. right?

dude- try $105 for incorrect parking in NYC-- 30- thats NOTHING that's like an hour parking fee in the garage (so u dont get a 105 fee for not being parked correctly)
u suck ALOT

oh honey, i know. believe me, i see the $30 as the boon that it is. the usual parking ticket is 75$ and up. i just happened to park right outside the business district. if i were like four spots in, it'd probably be more than 100 smackers. so i really should consider myself lucky.

Not being parked correctly? What does that mean? Was your car rolling down the street or something?

Anyway, I think I hate bird poop more. And have you ever found cat poop on your car? I have. If you're parked in the sun it gets baked into the paint as a bonus.

Ah, parking. The one constant bane of NYC existence. At least there's always something to talk about on blind dates.

haha- viking, by not "correctly' i mean any little thing that is wrong with the parking job- location, street cleaning rules (which involve checking the entire street for 5 different signs that all contradict each other), hydrants... cat crossing area, etc etc ---

so lia, tell us about your blind dates :) we want to know juice!

i am setting the wheels in motion to take home my very own parking meter from the city of new orleans and i am thinking about planting the meter in my backyard so that my dog can urinate all over it. parking tickets suck. i suggest reading Boethius and perhaps understanding Fortuna's wheel will allow you to free yourself of this bourgoise setback. C'est la vie.

sorry, Ale. No good stories come to mind. And if they did, they'd be on my own site.

Feel free to visit. I'll see if I can dig up any dirt.

Im loving this city so much. Of course the New York Cabbies are a lil scary at times with their drivers ed. I left my car back in Indiana, and I'm beginning to realize now exactly why I did.
